Alexandra has a background in marine resources and completed an industrial doctorate in aquaculture and circular economy in 2021 in collaboration with Matís\, Food and Biotech Iceland and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. Her work focuses on sustainable value creation\, positive impact in the blue economy and supporting the development of ocean clusters around the world. She is committed to promote the visibility and connection of women in the startup sector and is herself a co-founder of Hringvarmi\, an agri-tech startup that utilises waste heat for controlled environment food production. \n  \nJohan Ljungquist – Gårdsfisk (Åhus\, SE)  \nAfter working in the fishing industry and seeing how the environment is affected\, the university choice of marine biology came easily to Johan Ljungquist. “In 2009\, Mikael Olenmark and I met in a project that dealt with urban fish and plant farming. The vision of producing the world’s most sustainable fish and fundamentally changing Swedish food production took shape.” With the company Gårdsfisk\, Johan Ljungquist and his co-founder Mikael Olenmark have developed an ingenious solution where Swedish farmers raise fish on their farms. That way\, we can continue to eat really good fish and at the same time reduce overfishing and the eutrophication of our oceans.  \nWatch past webinars: LINK \nWebinar series programme: Download \n  \n  \n

Located on the Laber site of the Roscoff Marine Station\, a world center of excellence in fundamental research on algae\, the start-up proposes the use of bacterial enzymes to transform algal sugar chains in order to manufacture ingredients for cosmetics and nutrition. \n2 Jean-Michel Pommet – Zeni (Pays de la Loire\, FR) \n“Serial Entrepreneur” with over twenty years of experience in applied microbiology\, nutrition & health and environment\, Jean-Michel has two main areas of expertise: microbiota and microalgae both at science\, technology/process and marketing levels. His main motivation is to develop sustainable projects with strong impact to help move toward a new area of regenerative agriculture in favor of our environment and consumer health. He graduated from the University of Montpelier\, France\, in 2000 having specialized in cellular and molecular biology. He went on to hold several post-doctoral positions in UK and France within the food and pharma industries and he developed a strong network of experts in formulation in Europe. He set up his own life sciences consulting firm which he ran for seven years\, solving technical challenges and transferring innovative technology mainly in nutrition and health. He founded in 2006 the first ever international conferences in the fields of prebiotics\, probiotics and microbiome\, events which combined to become PROBIOTA in 2011 (today a leading conference developed worldwide by Nutraingredients.com in UK). Since 2013\, Jean-Michel has worked in the growing sector of microalgae for which he developed algae-based products before recently jumping into a multi-impact startup to clean and reuse water from industrial activities\, ZENI\, launched in October 2023. \n3 Anne Boermans – Zeefier (NL) \nWith more than 25 years of experience in the fields of marketing\, management\, and media\, Anne Boermans is a seasoned entrepreneur\, making her the ideal partner in a link-up with designer-artist Nienke Hoogvliet. The two met in 2019\, and after multiple conversations and discussing the quintessential literature on seaweed\, Anne too became convinced of the impact and potential of seaweed as a resource for yarn and dye.\nShe has been an active campaigner for implementing new developments with a blue economy motive. Anne lends to Zeefier her infectious enthusiasm\, alongside her eye for business-building\, marketing communication\, and her know-how as a former owner of an art agency. Anne is striving for a step-by-step upscaling of seaweed as a renewable resource for the textile industry. \nCompany:Zeefier believes seaweed is the answer to the polluting textile industry since it doesn’t require fresh water\, agricultural land\, or chemicals to grow. It purifies CO2 and produces oxygen\, making it a perfect sustainable solution for the fashion and interior industry. For almost 10 years\, artivist Nienke Hoogvliet has worked on the perfect recipe for circular textile dyes from seaweed\, making it available for industrial use by the end of 2023. Joining forces with Anne Boermans for Zeefier\, they established Zeefier to radically change the textile industry. Currently\, we create the dye and dye our products in 4 locations in the Netherlands. SUMMARY:From Academia to Entrepreneurship (1/6)
DESCRIPTION:Blue Bio Techpreneurs Webinar Series • Transferring the Business Gen \nSix BBT webinars\, the first “From Academia to Entrepreneurship\, starting on the 27th of February 2024\, will focus on inspirational front runners\, entrepreneurs\, case studies and approaches in the blue biotechnology sector. All webinars will focus on real-life experiences and showcase concrete applications and entrepreneurial examples of circular innovations in blue biotech. The role of women entrepreneurs in blue biotech will be highlighted\, and one webinar will cover stories from European outermost regions\, such as the Azores. If you want to know what it takes to develop a start-up/innovation\, the obstacles and the pitfalls\, and the inspirational element of going through it\, register for this webinar and get to know inspiring people. \nWebinar 1 From Academia to Entrepreneurship\nThe first webinar of this series will be in partnership with BlueBio Alliance\, a member of the BlueBioTechpreneurs consortium. \nAre you looking to find work in Blue Biotech but need guidance in making the leap from academia to the private sector? The first webinar will cover challenges and opportunities in starting a career in marine biotechnology. Individual stories will shed light on the needs of students and entrepreneurs and what can be done to connect graduates to opportunities in the field. The project partners of Blue Bio Techpreneurs will share how their MOOC\, webinars and hackathons aim to do just that. A Q&A session will allow participants to speak directly to our speakers and to the project partners. Together we will share our experiences and the tools we need to build a successful future.  \nAgenda\nStudent Perspective – Starting a career in the Blue Bioeconomy\nEntrepreneur Perspective – Starting a career and finding talent in the Blue Bioeconomy\nBlue Bio Techpreneurs – Meeting the needs of students and companies in blue biotech.\nQ&A Networking Tips and Closing Remarks \nSpeakers\nAgnes Isabella Dorich  A Norwegian-Chilean master’s student at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)\, specializes in sustainable seafood business development. Her diverse experience spans foreign affairs\, venture capital\, and bioeconomy research.  \nFrancisco Machado\, founder of Easy Harvest Founded in 2022\, Easy Harvest is a startup based in Portugal\, that came to Francisco Machado’s mind\, while he witnessed the local beaches getting covered by macroalgae during unpredictable outburst bloom events.  While macroalgae are an important natural resource used by many industries\, these ones were regarded as a costly nuisance\, demanding heavy duty intervention for cleaning and disposal of all the organic material that piled up in the sand. Francisco saw the opportunity and came up with the idea of collecting these algae in the water column before stranding\, to provide high volumes of quality biomass at competitive prices to many end-markets who use this valuable natural resource. While providing for the industry\, he would also be contributing to solving a current ever growing ecological problem of coastal areas by mitigating the strandings upstream.  Francisco Machado is biologist\, an entrepreneur\, and a passionate speaker about Easy Harvest\, which he leads with his co-founder Emilia Kotiranta. Easy Harvest participated in the Blue Bio Value programme in 2022 (Ideation phase) and 2023 (acceleration programme). \nRead more about all webinars \n  \n
